From October 19 to 30 and November 9 to 13, 2026, the 9th SIRGAS School on “Reference Systems and Reference Frames” will be held. The School will be offered in a hybrid format: the theoretical component will be delivered online, while the practical component will take place in person at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of the Republic (Universidad de la República), Montevideo, Uruguay.
The program consists of ten days dedicated to the theoretical foundations of Reference Systems and Reference Frames, followed by five days of practical exercises focused on the computation, processing, and adjustment of observations, GNSS network adjustment using scientific software, and the processing, computation, and adjustment of gravimetric data. The School is intended for advanced professionals, early-career scientists, and staff members from national agencies seeking training in the fundamental topics of physical and geometric geodesy.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo. At the end of the course, depending on the practical track completed, participants are expected to be able to:
- Identify the metadata required for processing GNSS and gravimetric data.
- Understand the details of GNSS and gravimetric data processing.
- Set up a GAMIT/BERNESE processing workflow using their own data.
- Use GLOBK/BERNESE to perform daily and weekly combinations.
- Densify IGS20 using the provided sample data.
- Plan gravimetric measurement campaigns.
- Process gravimeter readings into mGal units and apply the necessary corrections to the observations.
- Process, adjust, and predict gravimetric observations.
- Compute and interpret gravity anomalies.
Topics for practical part:
In this section, the concepts covered during the theoretical component will be applied through hands-on exercises, with the aim of making the most efficient use of the course time.
The practical component will be held in person during the week following the SIRGAS 2026 Symposium (November 9–13, 2026) at the Faculty of Engineering, University of the Republic (Universidad de la República), Montevideo, Uruguay. Participation will be limited and subject to the capacity of the computer laboratories available.
The Bernese, GAMIT/GLOBK, and Gravimetry sessions will be conducted simultaneously in separate laboratories on November 9, 10, and 11. Therefore, each participant must select a single practical track during the registration process. Participants who are selected will be assigned to only one of these sessions and may attend only the practical course for which they have been accepted.
Participants attending the gravimetry practical course must bring their own personal computers.
Introduction to Dynadjust: High-performance geodetic network tuning
The DynAdjust practical component will be conducted in person at the Faculty of Engineering, University of the Republic, on November 12 and 13.
Important for the in-person phase: you must present a Letter of Support, designated by the National Representative of your country, since the School will give priority to those people who are part of institutions and/or centers that have GNSS Network management or need to implement them.
