Electricity: In Chile, the common voltage is 220 V and the frequency is 50 Hz. Plugs and sockets are of the C/L type.

Time zone: Twice a year there are time changes. The first of these occurs in the month of April and is called “winter time”, UTC-3. The second change occurs in the month of September and is called “summer time”, UTC-4.

Business hours: In general, the commercial stores are available from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. On Sundays and holidays, only the department stores are open from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Bank Hours: Banks are open from 09:00 to 14:00. Money withdrawals and other transactions can be made at ATMs, which operate 24 hours a day.

Local currency: The Chilean currency is the peso (CLP$). Currently, the bills in circulation are $20,000 (Orange), $10,000 (Blue), $5,000 (Pink), $2,000 (Violet) and $1,000 (Green). The coins are $500, $100, $50 and $10.

Exchange rate: The US dollar and the Euro are the most widely used international currencies in Chile. These can be exchanged at banks and official exchange houses. To know the exchange value, you can consult the website of the Central Bank of Chile and Banco del Estado.

Means of transport: To access the means of transport in Santiago, you must purchase a Bip card, which is available at all cashiers in the metro network. This will be the way to access public transport buses and the Santiago metro. The means of public transport that can be used to get to the event venue are the following (it is recommended to use the Moovit app, which recommends the best transport options according to your location):

  • Buses of the public transport system RED: 113, 115, 302, 509, 510, D03. You can use the mobile app “Metropolitan Mobility Network”
  • Santiago Metro: Toesca Station (Line 2). You can use the mobile app “Metro de Santiago Oficial”
  • Taxi
  • Others: Uber, DiDi, Cabify (Easy Taxi)

Visa procedures

Tourist visas can be processed by submitting a visa application to the SAC Ciudadano system (https://tramites.minrel.gov.cl/). The authorized period of stay for this type of visa is up to ninety (90) days. It should be taken into account that not all countries need the visa process.
